"A group called the iPhone Dev Team released a free piece of software called 'yellowsn0w' that unlocks the iPhone 3G. The software lets users reprogram the phones so they can work on any wireless network based on the same technical standard," Kane reports.
"An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment on the iPhone Dev Team's work, only saying that Apple doesn't support unlocked iPhones in the U.S. Apple offers such phones in Germany and Hong Kong "where government regulation requires it" but they usually come at a steep price," Kane reports. "Software programmers have been trying to unlock the iPhone 3G since it came out last July." Via MacDailyNews .
The T-Mobile G1 hasn't even been out a full week and its already been unlocked to work on AT&T's network.
"Unlocking the G1 is very quick and easy, in fact anyone who can make a phone call can unlock their G1 with no trouble at all. Unlock-TMobileG1.com offers unlock codes for $22.99 USD. After placing an order including your IMEI code you will receive an eight-digit unlock code for your device. Your IMEI number can be found by pressing *#06# in the dialer, or by going into your settings, selecting “About phone” and then selecting “Status”. The IMEI number then can be found about half way down, it is 15 digits long." Via Android Community .
"If you were wondering how I was doing push email tests on iPhone OS 2.0 and Vodafone UK, this is the reason why. The code wizard commandos at the iPhone Dev Team have been working on this non-stop since the early days of beta testing. In fact, I had iPhone OS 2.0 running on my iPhone since last week. That was version 5A345, two below 5A347, but identical in functionality.
Now that the official iPhone OS 2.0 is out, the iPhone Dev Team will release their Pwnage tool for everyone to unlock and jailbreak their iPhones soon."
Here's Gizmodo's video of MobileMe's Push Mail on an unlocked & Jailbroken iPhone 2.0 . Who would have thought 2.0 would be jailbroken and unlocked already???
