T-Mobile suspends sales of all Sidekicks due to server failure
With today's news of T-Mobile letting Sidekick customers know that all of their data has been lost due to a server failure on Microsoft's/Danger's servers (Microsoft bought Danger, makers of the Sidekick back in February of 2008 for $500 million ). T-Mobile has suspended sales of all Sidekicks listing every model as "temporarily out of stock".

Server failure @ T-Mobile results in Sidekick owners losing all personal data
Sidekick customers, during this service disruption, please DO NOT remove your battery, reset your Sidekick, or allow it to lose power.

T-MOBILE AND MICROSOFT/DANGER STATUS UPDATE ON SIDEKICK DATA DISRUPTION

Dear valued T-Mobile Sidekick customers:

T-Mobile and the Sidekick data services provider, Danger, a subsidiary of Microsoft, are reaching out to express our apologies regarding the recent Sidekick data service disruption.

We appreciate your patience as Microsoft/Danger continues to work on maintaining platform stability, and restoring all services for our Sidekick customers.

Regrettably, based on Microsoft/Danger's latest recovery assessment of their systems, we must now inform you that personal information stored on your device - such as contacts, calendar entries, to-do lists or photos - that is no longer on your Sidekick almost certainly has been lost as a result of a server failure at Microsoft/Danger. That said, our teams continue to work around-the-clock in hopes of discovering some way to recover this information. However, the likelihood of a successful outcome is extremely low. As such, we wanted to share this news with you and offer some tips and suggestions to help you rebuild your personal content. You can find these tips in our Sidekick Contacts FAQ. We encourage you to visit the Forums on a regular basis to access the latest updates as well as FAQs regarding this service disruption.

In addition, we plan to communicate with you on Monday (Oct. 12) the status of the remaining issues caused by the service disruption, including the data recovery efforts and the Download Catalog restoration which we are continuing to resolve. We also will communicate any additional tips or suggestions that may help in restoring your content.

We recognize the magnitude of this inconvenience. Our primary efforts have been focused on restoring our customers' personal content. We also are considering additional measures for those of you who have lost your content to help reinforce how valuable you are as a T-Mobile customer.

We continue to advise customers to NOT reset their device by removing the battery or letting their battery drain completely, as any personal content that currently resides on your device will be lost.

Once again, T-Mobile and Microsoft/Danger regret any and all inconvenience this matter has caused.

Danger's price tag: Reportedly $500 million
"Microsoft didn't say how much it was paying for Danger when it announced the deal on Monday. However, according to Om Malik, the price tag for the company was $500 million.

That's more than $1 million per employee for the company, which has 294 workers. However, the price tag makes some sense when you consider the company has taken in $225 million from investors and had been pondering an IPO. "

Microsoft to Acquire Sidekick Maker Danger Inc.
"Microsoft, who recently made a bid to buy search competitor Yahoo!, has announced moments ago that it will be acquiring Danger Inc. for an undisclosed sum.

Danger Inc. is responsible for the the Danger Hiptop and the associated software and service support. The Danger Hiptop is sold on many networks under different names, most notably as the T-Mobile Sidekick. The Hiptop/Sidekick line is well loved by the younger crowd for its intuitive user interface and superior instant messaging support. Microsoft did not reveal when the deal would be finalized, but noted that it is excited to bring Danger's 10 year history of expertise in the mobile consumer market to Microsoft." Via MobileBurn .

Will Microsoft ruin the SideKick with Windows Mobile? Stay tuned.

T-Mobile Suspends Sales of Sidekick Slide due to Power Issue
"Last night T-Mobile announced that it was suspending sales of the recently launched Sidekick Slide, a device built for T-Mobile by Motorola. T-Mobile is reporting that Motorola has confirmed the existance of a problem that causes some T-Mobile Sidekick Slide devices to power-off when the display's slide mechanism is used.

Motorola is reportedly studying the problem in order to come up with some sort of fix.

T-Mobile customers that are experiencing the problem with their Sidekick Slide can contact T-Mobile Customer Care, at 1-800-266-2459, or speak with a sales representative at any T-Mobile retail location in order to get additional information or to discuss currently available options."

T-Mobile is now giving owners of the SideKick Slide a free upgrade to the SideKick LX.

T-MOBILE USA AND DANGER INTRODUCE MYSPACE MOBILE

If you use MySpace and have a T-Mobile SideKick this news should make you happy. T-Mobile is releasing a MySpace application for the SideKick. You can get this app through the SideKick's catalog and download it.

T-Mobile USA, Inc., Danger, Inc., and MySpace, the country’s most trafficked Web site, today announced a highly integrated MySpace Mobile experience for the T-Mobile® Sidekick®. The announcement marks the first partnership between MySpace with T-Mobile and Danger.

“Sidekick users are often the hub of their circle of friends, and MySpace is the No. 1 Web site our users visit on their device,” said Jeff Hopper, vice president of marketing at T-Mobile USA. “We’ve worked closely with MySpace and Danger to create a powerful MySpace Mobile experience that is uniquely tailored for the T-Mobile Sidekick. We think MySpace and Sidekick users are going to love having complete control over their MySpace universe right from the palm of their hand.”

The MySpace Mobile software is tightly integrated with the T-Mobile Sidekick hardware, user interface, and all the applications on the device. The new MySpace Mobile for the T-Mobile Sidekick is designed to optimize the delivery of data to each user and preserve the features that MySpace users love on the PC. All aspects of the MySpace Mobile experience are tailored so users can simply navigate on the T-Mobile Sidekick screen and enjoy fast access to T-Mobile’s robust wireless network.

Gizmodo posts pics and information of upcoming SideKick

Gizmodo has posted pictures of an upcoming SideKick that is being designed in part with Motorola.

"The Zante, or Motorola Q900, will probably come out in October complete with full multimedia playback support, Java, game controllers and the obligatory Danger OS. Even while it is as gleaming and shares the same EDGE connectivity (this time by T-Mobile), it doesn't seem to compete with the JesusPhone, including only 128MB of internal Flash RAM. Its only expansion slot just can handle MiniSD cards up to 2GB. According to our tipster, Motorola and T-Mobile are aiming at 5.9 hours of talk time and a $269 average selling price tag, which sounds great for a cellphone with all these features."

Check out Gizmodo for more pics and information.

Danger's RAZR Sidekick gets closer to reality
"It's been rumored forever, and little bits and pieces have leaked out of Danger and their employees but, a slip up from Danger themselves? There is a placeholder (will be probably taken down any second) for the Danger Hiptop OS 4.0 Owners Manual for the Zante device. Formally known as the Sidekick X, the Zante is said to have a higher resolution screen of 320×240, and be incredibly slim. Hence the RAZR nomenclature. Like really, really slim. It also should feature a 1.3 megapixel camera still which is totally unforgivable. Motorola's name is still being thrown around as the manufacturing partner, and we're actively trying to get more information on this." Via The Boy Genius Report .

Yet another (sorta) celebrity's cell phone gets hacked
It's not Paris Hilton, or Lindsay Lohan this time. Lindsay just had it done for the second time last week , poor girl. This time it's American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino. Looks like Fantasia likes using her SideKick 3 for more than just making phone calls, im'ing, and texting. She likes to take pictures of herself in various poses wearing panties and a top. Unlike other celebrities, Fantasia is more demure with her cell phone self portraits (possibly a tad smarter?) by keeping her panties on while posing for her SideKick 3. If you want to see more pics head on over to TheCellFreak.com .
